Tip 1 - 2:45 York - Magical Spirit e/w

Magical Spirit has a pretty decent career strike rate, winning eight times from 39 starts. His peak performance came last season, winning off a mark of 94 at Doncaster before his run in this race, where he finished a close third off 97. He won in fairly bloodless fashion at Doncaster in April on his seasonal reappearance. It’s reasonable to think, as an 8yo, that he might come on for that run. Running off two pounds lower than in the race last year, he looks to have a great each way chance.

Tip 2 - 3:15 York - Montassib

There are some interesting contenders in this year’s Duke of York, with 14 runners going to post at the time of writing. There doesn’t appear to be an apparent market leader, which confirms how open this race may be. Preference goes to Montassib, who has course and distance winning form from last year and won a Listed race on seasonal reappearance at Doncaster in March. Has won on ground ranging from good to firm, to soft, so today’s relatively fast ground should hold no fears and has a great record of three wins from four career races at six furlongs.

Tip 3 - 3:30 Ffos Las - Stringtoyourbow

An interesting looking handicap at Ffos Las can go to the very lightly raced seven-year-old Stringtoyourbow. The unexposed gelding is having just his 10th start under rules and can pick up his second win over hurdles. After three poor attempts over fences he returns back over smaller obstacles, and has a great chance as his career best performance came in a 3 mile hurdle on good-to-soft ground. He was raised 12lb for that win, but gets in here off workable mark just 4lb higher than he was that day.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?

We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.

A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time. 

For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
