Clemson-Ohio State Fiesta Bowl Props & Bets to Back CFP 2019

Clemson-Ohio State Fiesta Bowl Props & Bets to Back CFP 2019

Is Clemson just a solid team that hasn’t played anyone? Or a championship squad that hasn’t had the chance to prove it yet?

We know what Ohio State is about at this point. They ran the table against a decent schedule and finished with three players in the top six in Heisman Trophy voting. Some think this is the best Ohio State team ever assembled.

Finally both teams will get a chance to prove who is the best on the field Saturday in the Fiesta Bowl in one of the most highly-anticipated semifinal matchups of the College Football Playoff era.

Let’s take a look at some of the best bets fans of college football betting should consider:

All odds current as of publication but subject to change.

Pick 1: Ohio State +2

Both teams score a ton and defend better than anyone in the nation. We just haven’t seen the Tigers do it against a worthy foe. Maybe they really are that good and it doesn’t matter who you throw in front of them. We’re just not ready to doubt a Buckeyes team that went 9-4 against the college football odds spread facing superior competition. OSU quarterback Justin Fields might not be 100%, but running back J.K. Dobbins is playing the best ball of his career.

Pick 2: Over 63

Sophomore quarterback Trevor Lawrence has led Clemson to 28 consecutive victories dating to last season.

It might seem a little high considering OSU and Clemson have the nation’s top-ranked defenses. But neither team was challenged this year by an offense like LSU or Oklahoma. Not to mention both teams average more than 45 points per game. They’re playing this thing indoors, too. We expect Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence and the Fields/Dobbins combo to dictate the tempo.

Pick 3: Clemson -0.5 in First Quarter

The Tigers don’t waste any time getting going. They’ve averaged 14 points in the first quarter in each of their last three games, while OSU had some slow starts against Michigan and especially in the Big Ten title game against Wisconsin. We think the Tigers take the early edge before OSU establishes itself in the second half.

Pick 4: First-half Over 31 points

Again, we like Clemson to have a lot of success early before the Buckeyes adjust. We saw the Wolverines move the ball with a heavy dose of crossing routes early in Ann Arbor and it took OSU a while to get settled in defensively. And Fields was clearly limited with his legs late in the season. We’re thinking that three-week break will be beneficial for the entire OSU offense, even if he’s not completely back to full strength.
