Dagenham's return to winning ways will be a very brief one
Carlisle United make the first of two lengthy trips this week when they lock horns with League Two basement boys Dagenham & Redbridge at Victoria Road this evening.
The Cumbrians have enjoyed mixed fortunes of late with just one win from their last four outings. A 1-0 defeat at Wimbledon was followed by a 2-1 away win at Morecambe and a 2-2 draw at home to Leyton Orient last week. Their most recent outing ended with a 4-1 defeat to runaway League Two leaders Northampton Town at Brunton Park on Tuesday evening and Keith Curle’s side will be desperate to move back towards the play-off places with a win in East London this weekend.
They may be in for a fight however. Dagenham & Redbridge have had a disastrous season so far and look destined to be plying their trade in the National League next season, barring a massive turnaround in fortunes. They gave themselves a lifeline at the weekend with a much-needed win against fellow relegation candidates York City, however the fact remains that the Daggers are some seven points away from safety and with just fourteen games left to play, one feels that they are fighting an uphill struggle in their quest to retain their Football League status.
Indeed, the hosts have managed just a single goal in their last three outings, although they managed to put two past Mansfield last month and can find the back of the net against a Carlisle United side which have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last four League Two games. As such, we’ll be going for Both Teams to Score at odds of 16/19 with 888sport.
Clearly we also need to look at goalscorers and we don’t need to look too far. Derek Asamoah has banged in eight this season so far, his most recent being at Morecambe just under two weeks ago when he found the net just four minutes after being sent on as a sub at the Globe Arena. We’ll be backing him to score anytime tonight at 11/5 with Coral, the same bookie going 6/1 that he breaks the deadlock at Victoria Road.
We’re anticipating an action-packed clash between these sides tonight, however the Daggers have been struggling since the start of the season and will find the going tough against a Carlisle United side which have proven themselves difficult to break down away from Brunton Park this season.
