2018 Ryder Cup dates and schedule – Europe out for revenge in France

The 2018 Ryder Cup takes place at Le Golf National, with Europe looking to reclaim the trophy after Hazeltine

The 2016 Ryder Cup saw Team USA claim a much-needed victory over their European opponents, with Darren Clarke’s side failing to recover from a 4-0 defeat in the opening day foursomes.

Despite some valiant performances from the likes of Rory McIlroy, Thomas Pieters and Henrik Stenson, the Europeans fell short for the first time in the last four renewals, with Davis Love III leading the Americans to victory.

The two teams will meet again in 2018 and the dates have just been confirmed for the Ryder Cup in two years’ time. Between Friday 28 September and Sunday 30 September, Le Golf National in Paris will host this prestigious event.

This 2018 Ryder Cup will be just the second time that the event has been held in continental Europe, with the other “home” venues having been based in either England, Scotland, Ireland or Wales.

Pascal Grizot said: “Some dates will be forever engraved in our memories when we look back at the history y of The Ryder Cup in France. The 28th, 29th, and 30th of September 2018 will be the first of many.

“The 21st September 2016 will also play a part. Yesterday, the countdown has been officially launched and the date fixed for all French and passionate golfers alike.

“Since 17th May 2011, when our country was designated host to the most famous Europe vs America match, we have been putting all our energy and passion into three days that will forever change the image of golf in France.

Our excitement grows as that date comes ever closer.”

Richard Hills said: “To be able to announce the official dates of The Ryder Cup is always a significant milestone in any country’s Ryder Cup journey.

“We are already working on making The 2018 Ryder Cup at Le Golf National one of the biggest and best that Europe has ever staged, and we are sure France will be exceptional hosts for another compelling edition of this great sporting occasion.”

Europe will need to register 14.5 points in Paris to overcome Team USA considering that the latter arrive as reigning champions, with Rory McIlroy likely to be leading the European charge once again.

Henrik Stenson, Justin Rose and Thomas Pieters are also players likely to be involved, although it will be interesting to see whether Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia or Martin Kaymer are playing well enough to merit selection.
