Frank Lampard 4/1 to become next Derby County manager

Lampard linked with vacant post at Pride Park, with Derby searching for a new manager after Rowett leaves for Stoke

Derby County find themselves manager-less just a few days after being beaten in the Championship play-off final, with Gary Rowett deciding that Stoke City offered him better prospects next season and potentially beyond.

This surprise turn of events means that the Rams are hunting for another new manager and Dean Smith is the 2/1 favourite at BetVictor, with the current Brentford manager well regarded after a solid season for the Bees in the Championship.

Smith was previously linked to the West Brom position before Darren Moore was given the nod, with Martin O’Neill a 3/1 shot and would rank as the most experienced coach in the betting although whether he wants to leave his Republic of Ireland role is open to question.

Frank Lampard is at the other end of the scale in terms of experience although the former Chelsea midfielder is a 4/1 poke and perhaps he could be enticed by the prospect of coming to a club like Derby County.

Lampard seems to be linked to lots of vacant managerial positions and recently spoke with Ipswich, although there might be more funds available at Pride Park.

Paul Simpson has drifted to 8/1 to take charge and it’s clear that it would take a lot to wrest him from the England U20’s, while Mick McCarthy is a 12/1 chance and would be someone to potentially steady the ship.

All odds were correct at time of posting.
