Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers remains a heavy favorite to repeat as NFL MVP in NFL futures markets Wednesday, despite remarks by one award voter who said he is not backing “the biggest jerk in the league.”

Voting on the award, given by The Associated Press, takes place next week following the end of the regular season among 50 media types who hold ballots. Rodgers was -400 at DraftKings to repeat as the top player in the league on Wednesday. That’s where he stood before Hub Arkush, a Chicago sportscaster and executive editor of Pro Football Weekly, told 670 The Score in Chicago that there is no way Rodgers will earn his MVP vote.

"I don't think you can be the biggest jerk in the league and punish your team and your organization and your fan base the way he did and be the Most Valuable Player," Arkush said Tuesday via USA Today. "Has he been the most valuable on the field? Yeah, you could make that argument, but I don't think he is clearly that much more valuable than Jonathan Taylor or Cooper Kupp or maybe even Tom Brady. And so, from where I sit, the rest of it is why he's not gonna be my choice."

Rodgers missed a week during the season following a positive COVID-19 test. In August, Rodgers told reporters he was “immunized” against COVID-19 when asked about his vaccination status. No one bothered to follow up for clarity, and a myth was born.

Rodgers’ positive test forced him to miss the Packers 13-7 Week 9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Not having to face Rodgers helped the Chiefs, who easily held down Jordan Love and Green Bay’s offense. The Packers locked up the top-seed in the NFC with a week to play, despite the loss.

In response on Wednesday during his weekly press conference, Rodgers called Arkush "an absolute bum" and suggested Arkush should have his voting rights revoked in the future because of his claim his mind was made up before the season that Rodgers could not win the award.

Rodgers was not suspended but the team was fined for violating COVID-19 protocols. Under the current NFL COVID-19 protocols, Rodgers does not have to test again until after the NFC Championship Game. And players who test positive only need to miss five days instead of 10 once they test negative again. Three regular season games in Week 15 were rescheduled due to the large number of players in COVID-19 protocols, despite nearly 95% of the league’s players being vaccinated.

Rodgers Overcomes Questions, Doubters, COVID

The Packers are 12-4 ATS and 13-3 overall. They were the first NFL team to earn a playoff spot and earned a third-straight NFC North title. Rodgers’ numbers this season are again impressive. He boasts an NFL-best QB Rating at 111.1. He’s ninth in passing with 265.1 YPG, fourth in completion rate at 68.6% and third in TD passes with 35. Brady, meanwhile, is all but certain to finish the season leading the league in attempts, completions, yards passing and touchdowns. The Bucs won the NFC South and sit at 8-8 ATS and 12-4 overall.

“Do I think he’s gonna win it? Probably,” Arkush said. “A lot of voters don’t approach it the way I do, but others do, who I’ve spoken to. But one of the ways we get to keep being voters is we’re not allowed to say who we are voting for until after the award has been announced. I’m probably pushing the envelope by saying who I’m not voting for. But we’re not really supposed to reveal our votes.”

But he and his financial advisers came to their senses and the erstwhile passer agreed to honor the fourth year of his current $126 million deal. The Packers allowed Rodgers more input in how the offense is structured and operated. Rodgers has an opt-out after this season.
