Sanchez backed from 10/1 to 11/2 after Sergio Aguero sustains new injury on international duty
Sergio Aguero and injuries go hand in hand, with the Manchester City striker once again on the sidelines after a thigh injury sustained while on international duty with Argentina.
The forward scored five times against Newcastle United to bring his Premier League tally to six for the season, although it now appears he will be missing for the next few weeks including the Manchester derby on 25 October.
As soon as news filtered through that Aguero would be missing, there was a concerted gamble on Alexis Sanchez to be top Premier League scorer, with the Chilean sitting on five goals after scoring a hat-trick against Leicester and a brace against Manchester United.
It appears that Sanchez is clicking into gear and he managed to find the net sixteen times last term, suggesting that a total of 20+ goals could be on the cards this season.
Bet365 have been most drastic with their price cuts, now going 11/2 about the Chilean heading the charts, with Paddy Power and Ladbrokes making him a 6/1 chance although BetVictor still have 8/1 available.
It’s easy to see why he’s a warm order, with Arsene Wenger admitting that Sanchez wasn’t 100% match sharp in the first few games of the campaign although it appears that the player is now up to speed and he found the net in a World Cup qualifier against Brazil during the international break.
A bet365 spokesman told bookies.com: “Sanchez has been heavily backed since that brace against United and Aguero’s injury means he could go favourite should he be wearing his shooting boots against Watford.
“Sanchez is now our worst result in the Top Goalscorer market although there seems little opposition to him aside from Aguero, especially with Diego Costa and Harry Kane off the pace”.
All odds were correct at time of posting.
