Villans 33/1 to win 2018/19 Championship title after replacing Bruce with Dean Smith
Aston Villa have wasted little time in finding a successor to Steve Bruce, with Dean Smith leaving his Brentford post to return to the Midlands.
Smith has been impressive since he started his managerial career at Walsall, with the Brummie then taking charge of the Bees and building a team that look capable of challenging for promotion to the Premier League.
However, the lure of managing the Villa proved too strong and he will be joined by John Terry who will be assistant manager at the club after playing for the same team last season.
The bookies were taken by the appointment of Smith and bet365 go 5/1 about Aston Villa landing promotion to the Premier League this season, although Paddy Power have a bigger 6/1 for those wanting to get the best odds.
Villa are a 33/1 poke to win the Championship title although a good start under the new regime would see those odds tumble and it’s clearly a competitive division where no team is likely to run away with things at the top.
In a club statement, Christian Purslow said: “These three appointments represent the start of a new era and direction at Aston Villa and we are delighted to secure their services after an extensive search. … Dean has a clear and successful coaching philosophy as well as a real understanding of Aston Villa football club. He is also knowledgeable about the Championship.
“John is one of the most decorated players in English football, has an affinity with the club and is ready to make the next step in his career working alongside Dean. And Jesús also brings a huge amount of experience in his particular role having worked with some of the biggest clubs in Europe.”
All odds were correct at time of posting.
