Just one day after Maryland’s sports gambling legislation was signed into law by Gov. Larry Hogan, the Baltimore Ravens and BetMGM announced a multi-year partnership that has BetMGM becoming the Ravens’ first “Official Gaming Partner.”

As part of the partnership, the NFL team and the online sports betting company will collaborate to create cobranded promotions for Ravens fans, according to a news release. In part, that means BetMGM-branded signage will be present throughout the Ravens’ home stadium — M&T Bank Stadium — and in digital media, and on integrated social media content.

Additionally, the BetMGM app will feature Ravens specific promotions and marketing campaigns. BetMGM will also have a private hospitality suite in the stadium.

“When we began the process of carefully identifying sports betting and digital gaming partners, one of our top priorities was finding unique ways for Ravens fans to further engage with the team,” Ravens Chief Sales Officer Kevin Rochlitz said in the release. “We are excited to partner with BetMGM and look forward to the specialized entertainment experience the company will provide for our fans.”

Both retail and online sports wagering will be legal in Maryland, according to the legislation signed into law by Hogan on Tuesday. It is anticipated that retail sportsbooks will be up and running before online betting and that the state’s casinos will be among the first to have their operations approved because they have already gone through much of the investigation and vetting procedures that will be part of the licensing process. Regulations for online wagering are still being crafted. Licensing for online will follow.

BetMGM launched in neighboring Virginia on Jan. 27 and also went live in Pennsylvania on Dec. 18, 2020.

What About MGM National Harbor?

The gaming company is associated with one of Maryland’s six casinos, the upscale MGM National Harbor, an MGM Resorts International property, which is located just across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C., about 45 minutes from Baltimore. Interestingly, the Ravens play within walking distance of a rival casino, the Horseshoe Baltimore, owned by Caesars Entertainment.

In 2018, years before the legalization of sports gambling in Maryland, the Ravens announced a partnership with the Horseshoe. At the time, the agreement appeared to provide for cobranding between the two entities.

While the new partnership announcement between the Ravens and BetMGM didn’t mention specific tie-ins between the team and the actual National Harbor casino, an MGM casino executive said as much.

“BetMGM’s partnership with the Baltimore Ravens comes at a pivotal time for MGM National Harbor, as we usher in the era of legalized sports betting in Maryland,” Jorge Perez, president and chief operating officer for MGM National Harbor, said in the release. “We are confident that we will provide Ravens fans throughout the DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia area) with new and innovative ways to experience football season before, during and after games at our entertainment resort.”

Other BetMGM Partnerships

Previously, BetMGM partnered with MLB’s Washington Nationals, announcing that deal in January. Washington D.C., where the Nationals play, has both retail and online regulated sports wagering. As part of that agreement, a BetMGM Sportsbook will be connected to Nationals Park and will launch a mobile app within the permitted area around the park.

The BetMGM sportsbook at Nationals Park will be in a spot where patrons will have a stadium view and a sports betting experience that complements MGM National Harbor Dugout Club. Fans will not be able to access the sportsbook during Nationals games, but they can place bets on BetMGM's mobile app, a news release said at the time of the announcement.

BetMGM also has partnerships with several other major professional sports franchises (six in the NFL): the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers, Las Vegas Raiders, New York Jets, Detroit Lions, Denver Broncos, and Tennessee Titans; the NHL’s Las Vegas Golden Knights and Detroit Red Wings, and the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces.

A week ago, BetMGM became the first Official Sports Betting Partner of the LPGA Tour. BetMGM will feature LPGA odds in BetMGM’s golf menu, alongside the PGA and European tours.
