The waiting and the hype is nearly over. On 26 August, Conor McGregor will clash with Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match, the like of which has never been seen before.

McGregor remains the big outsider to land victory in Las Vegas, although bet365 have been taking thousands of sizeable bets on the man known as The Notorious, with the Irishman now trading at 3/1 with the world’s leading bookmaker.

Bet365 admit that a victory for McGregor would spell bad news for the profit margins, with Steve Freeth telling bookies.com that the firm would lose “several million pounds” if Mayweather is beaten.

bet365’s Steve Freeth told bookies.com: “We lost over £1m when outsiders Bellew and Fury beat Haye and Klitschko respectively but we’re already well past those figures with a week to go until the bout in Las Vegas.

“McGregor is no longer the 9/1 longshot he was when we opened the market with an early victory for the Irishman already touching liabilities of several million pounds.”

Bet365 must be secretly delighted that the fight has caught the imagination and perhaps this will be the biggest boxing match of all time in terms of turnover and bets taken.

Floyd Mayweather is trading at odds of 1/4 with bet365 to win in Vegas, with McGregor 3/1 and he has told everyone that it will take just a handful of rounds to enjoy a knockout.
