The Cleveland Cavaliers and United Kingdom-based Betway, a sports betting and online gaming company, have announced a new multi-year partnership before Ohio has legalized sports betting.

The NBA betting deal includes a marketing campaign to promote Betway through signs and commercials, as well as a presence on team digital and social channels and other marketing assets, according to a news release from the team posted on its website Thursday.

Since sports betting is not yet legal in Ohio, the partnership introduces a free-to-play game called “Betway Big Pick,” where fans can compete each week during the season to win cash prizes.

A final hearing of Ohio Senate Select Committee on Gaming is set to take place next Wednesday. After a break, the committee will reconvene in mid-April to work on a draft of sports betting and e-bingo legislation for further discussion and advancement.

The Cavaliers, along with other professional sports teams in the state, have already provided testimony during the hearings to support sports betting legislation.

Betway Group, founded in 2006, is an authorized sports betting operator of the NBA. Betway recently announced a U.S. sponsorship expansion with the Cavs being one of its first NBA partnerships. The company will also be coming soon to Colorado and New Jersey.

“We are thrilled to welcome Betway to the Cavaliers family,” Shelly Cayette, Cleveland Cavaliers senior vice president of global partnerships, said in the news release. “Sports gaming is an exciting and rapidly growing industry and we are excited to bring ‘Betway Big Pick’ to our fans. We’re proud to partner with one of the preeminent platforms in this space, Betway, and help bolster their presence and connectivity throughout the Cleveland market and across our global fanbase.”

More Details of the Deal

At the start of the 2021-22 season, the Betway logo will be displayed on the Cavaliers’ home court along what is known as the "apron," the out-of-bounds space between the baseline and benches, according to the release. This will be in addition to the current rotation of Betway branding that is already featured on courtside signs this season.

Betway will also be the presenting partner of CavsHQ next season, the team’s magazine style TV show on Fox Sports Ohio, and will be featured across Cavs social and digital platforms and channels, the release said.

“We are honored to enter into a partnership deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers,” Anthony Werkman, Betway CEO, said in the release. “The Cavs have proved to be one of the most consistent and exciting teams in the NBA in recent years and we’re looking forward to seeing the Betway brand associated with them.”

Betway will also be a supporting partner of the Cleveland Wheelchair Cavaliers.
