The Nicky Henderson runner suffers injury setback ahead of 2014 Champion Hurdle
My Tent Or Yours is one of the leading lights for the Champion Hurdle next Tuesday although the horse’s preparation for the Cheltenham Festival were dented when it emerged that a puncture on the sole of his hoof has occurred.
The horse won the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton on Boxing Day and can be backed at 5/1 to claim victory in the 2014 Champion Hurdle when he lines up against Hurricane Fly, Our Conor and The New One.
However, Nicky Henderson is somewhat dismayed after discovering that the seven-year-old gelding had to have his shoe removed following the injury, with the Seven Barrows team assessing the problem before deciding how to treat it.
Henderson said: “We have had to take his shoe off and he has a discrete puncture wound in the sole. It’s tender right now, but it’s rather new so it’s bound to be sore.
“We are tending to it as we speak.
“We have got his shoe off right now and we are designing a new one to cover and protect it.
“One would assume he must have done it yesterday so it will be sore, but we have just got to tread carefully and we will keep everyone posted.
“He’s finished all his work, he galloped on Saturday so I’m not worried work-wise.
“No trainer wants a problem at this stage, though. We are all praying for a trouble-free run but we don’t seem to be getting one across the board.
“We’ve got all the experts here and we are working on it at the moment, it’s just a matter of what we do and we will update everyone later.”
The horse has started to drift for the Champion Hurdle after news of the injury emerged, with Hurricane Fly likely to go off favourite as the Irish raider bids to win the race for a third occasion.
