Chelsea odds-on to smash the Hammers in tonight’s London derby

Can Chelsea get their campaign off to a dream start with a home win against the Hammers tonight?

To say that 2015/16 was a disappointing season for the Blues would be a massive understatement, however they now have a new man at the helm in the form of Antonio Conte and with a successful pre-season campaign under their belt they can now concentrate fully on the season ahead, unencumbered by the distraction of European competition.

Tonight’s match provides the hosts with a chance to get their new season off to the best possible start and we’re of the opinion that the Blues can indeed get something from this London derby.

Nevertheless, the visiting Hammers will be have been buoyed by the arrival of Andre Ayew and with Dmitri Payet still in the squad, things won’t be straightforward for Conte’s men this evening.

Let’s not forget that the Hammers finished some twelve points above Chelsea at the end of 2015/16 and started last season with a surprise win at the Emirates Stadium. They followed this up with just five away defeats and could cause the Chelsea defence no shortage of problems at Stamford Bridge.

The hosts may be odds-on with the bookies to get their campaign off to a flyer tonight and whilst Conte may ultimately succeed in his remit of bringing silverware to Stamford Bridge this season, West Ham will fancy their chances of spoiling this opening match.

Do we fancy their chances? Indeed we do and whilst we’re stopping short of predicting an away win for the Hammers, a share of the spoils is hardly out of the question and a draw is our choice of outcome in what looks set to be a pretty cagey affair in West London.
