Can Robert Thornton win again?

Thornton present five fantastic outside darting shouts for the European Championship

Belgium is the latest battle ground in a wonderful winter of top-draw, televised darting tournaments, as the European Championship gets underway this Friday to Sunday.

There have been four different winners over as many of the past editions of this competition, so backing a fifth new arrowsmith to take the trophy is enticing. The giant-killer is garnering a ruthless reputation after making the quarters of the 2015 World Matchplay and UK Open, as well as snaffling a World Grand Prix semi-final spot, knocking out the likes of Gary Anderson and James Wade for those finishes.

Robert Thornton
The Thorn finally looks like coming into his own at age 48, as the unshakable Scot pulled off a fantastic sporting upset by slaying favourite Michael van Gerwen in the final of the 2015 World Grand Prix.

Buoyed by confidence after deservedly bagging his third major title, unruffled Thornton could emerge as a credible force to threaten the established order, and is 40/1 from bet365 to win his second televised tournament on the trot.
