England 11/4 to suffer Ashes whitewash after losing 2nd Test

England staring down the barrel Down Under, with the bookmakers making the whitewash the most likely outcome

England attempted a heroic run chase in Adelaide but it was always going to be a tall order on the final day of the Second Test, with Australia sealing a victory by 120 runs.

It means that the Aussies now lead the series by a 2-0 scoreline and Paddy Power free bets offer 11/4 that they win the remaining three Test Matches to complete a whitewash.

Joe Root has insisted that England are still in with a chance during this series and it was the captain who top scored for his team during the second innings as he tried in vain to recover a big gap.

“We came to the ground expecting” said Root after the match. “We were right in the game but losing early wickets hampered our chances.

“The way we went about it yesterday was exceptional and that has to be the benchmark going forward. That shows how we are still massively in this series.”

“When winning the toss, I thought it was the right thing to bowl first. It is easy to question now. I fully back our bowlers in those conditions to take 10 wickets.”

However, England are now as big as 33/1 to win the series and that would mean triumphing in the three remaining Test Matches, with many fans simply hoping that the team manage to win at least once.

The 4-1 winning scoreline is on offer at 3/1 with Ladbrokes and it seems preferable to back this outcome rather than the 4-0 considering that virtually every Test Match now ends in a result rather than a draw.

Steve Smith has played some excellent cricket in this Ashes series and he’s now 10/11 with Stan James to be the top Australian run scorer, while his opposite number Joe Root is also his team’s favourite to manage the most runs.

BetVictor offer 6/4 about the England skipper and you can get 20/1 with Ladbrokes that the tourists manage a heroic draw.

All odds were correct at time of posting.
