The Bayern Munich striker simply can’t be ignored

How many goals are required to win a European Championship Golden Boot? At Euro 2012, no less than six players dead-heated on three, although the extended format of Euro 2016 means we should expect the winner to emerge on five goals or more.

After all, the winner, runner-up and two semi-finalists will play seven matches in total, so it means we should look towards players from countries who are likely to progress a long way in France.

Our shortest-priced pick is ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI at odds of 16/1. The Bayern Munich striker simply can’t be ignored. He was the top scorer in Euro 2016 qualification and leads the scoring charts in the Bundesliga.

Poland have been drawn in Germany’s group but will be confident of going through at the expense of Ukraine and Northern Ireland. There’s also an opportunity for goals in these games and Lewandowski doesn’t need many chances to find the net.

At slightly bigger odds of 28/1, we’ve added HARRY KANE to our shortlist and recommend you do the same. The Tottenham striker is odds-on to be the Premier League’s leading scorer this season and looks set to lead the line for England at Euro 2016.

England play Wales, Russia and Slovenia at the group stage and we’re happy to get with Kane to make short work of these teams, especially as there’s a chance he’ll be on penalty duties.

Finally, we’re having a few quid on ANTHONY MARTIAL at odds of 40/1. There is uncertainty over whether Karim Benzema will be part of the French squad at Euro 2016 although Martial should still get game time for a side who could go off favourites to win this tournament.

The Manchester United man is open to improvement and can enjoy himself in the group stage against the Swiss, Albanians and Romanians. You couldn’t hand-pick a better group for Les Bleus and Martial might get a share of the spoils.
