Undefeated Dragons flying high in tough-looking pool, and have favourable run-in after facing Belgium twice

Wales are well on course to qualify for their first ever European Championship finals, and second major tournament, as they lead the way in qualifying Group B after recently shocking much-fancied Belgium.

The Dragons (11/10 with the likes of SkyBet, Betfred and Coral to finish first) currently top the pool by three points over nearest rivals the Red Devils, and are five ahead of the rest of the pack, with just four matches to go.

Being the only undefeated team left in the group, and one of only nine nations in the whole Euro qualifiers, is a remarkable achievement for Wales, who now have a seemingly straightforward run-in, after already facing Belgium twice.

While qualification to the France finals next year is not yet assured, their next opponents are Cyprus away (3 September), followed by a home match against Israel (6 September), who they beat 3-0 in the reverse fixture.

A clash on the road to Bosnia and Herzegovina on 10 October could provide a tricky test, especially as the Eastern European nation are desperate to finish in the third, to qualify for a play-off spot after a miserable start to the campaign.

Wales, then, have been handed the easiest of games for their group finale on 13 October against minnows Andorra, who have yet to score a single point.

Gareth Bale may have had a troubled season with Real Madrid last term, being booed by certain sections of fans, but has certainly not let that affect his form for his country.

The wing wizard has smashed in five goals to be joint-top scorer of the group, along with Bosnia’s Edin Dzeko and Omer Damari of Israel, and will be keen to fire in more to assure his side make the finals.

It really is hard to believe that a country that has produced fine talent such as Ian Rush, John Charles, Ryan Giggs, Mark Hughes, Gary Speed and Neville Southall, has qualified for just one major tournament, way back in 1958 at the World Cup. But finally the Dragons can now dream about flying to a finals.
