Why ignore the obvious when it comes to placing your Champions League outright bets?
The Champions League has never been more competitive, with several elite teams now making victory in this competition as the number one priority.
The English challenge is truly alive thanks to the presence of Liverpool and Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain are a French beast and the same applies to Bayern Munich in Germany.
Barcelona, Juventus and Atletico Madrid are also on the shortlist, although it’s clear that Real Madrid are the value at 8/1 with bet365.
Here are five reasons why Real Madrid will retain their European crown:
Lopetegui is an upgrade on Zidane
Zinedine Zidane will go down in Real Madrid folklore as the man who led Los Merengues to three successive European Cup triumphs, although it was largely considered that he was more of an older brother to the players than a coach and strategist.
The same cannot be said of Julen Lopetegui who has been part of the Spanish FA for several years and was infamously poached by Real in the lead-up to the 2018 World Cup, with the manager potentially getting more juice out of the squad.
The king is dead, long live the king! Cristiano Ronaldo has left for Juventus although you can hardly argue that Real are worse off without a player who has spent his best years at the Bernabeu before a different kind of challenge in Italy.
Gareth Bale is a future Ballon d’Or winner and the Welshman is likely to make a big splash in this competition, linking up with Isco and Karim Benzema to devastating effect.
They have the knowhow
Three consecutive Champions League victories means that Real are the only teams with a European Cup triumph fresh in their mind, with the Spanish side hungry to keep establishing a legacy.
The nucleus of the squad remains the same, with key players like Sergio Ramos, Casemiro and Marcelo look to help their team enjoy plenty more success.
The future looks bright for Real
We have some exciting young players coming through at Real and that includes Dani Ceballos and Marco Asensio. Indeed, there were six Real Madrid players in the Spain national squad recently and that national strength will help them enormously.
Is there a better defence in Europe?
Real have upgraded their goalkeeper by signing Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea, with Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane looking like the real deal in central defence and there is plenty to be said about full backs Marcelo and Dani Carvajal.
With Casemiro, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric available to shield the defence, we are always happy to get with a team who can shut out the opposition.
