Bundesliga champions Bayern travel to face Leverkusen, who are still chasing European football
Bayern Munich trek to BayArena for the second time in just two months to take on third-place chasers Bayer Leverkusen (a superb 7/5 with Betfred to win).
Pep Guardiola’s guys may have expertly wrapped up a fourth successive Bundesliga title last time out in the league, but saw their aspirations of a treble triumph tank against Borussia Dortmund in the DFB Pokal.
Ahead of their upcoming Champions League battle with Guardiola’s former club Barcelona, the Munich men may well opt to give some of their star players a break.
However, squaring up for battle with Barca on the back of two defeats on the spin would be far from ideal, so back Bayern at 11/5 from Betfair to beat Bayer and give themselves a boost before their Catalan clash.
The German juggernauts have been beaten just twice in the Bundesliga this campaign and will want to preserve that impressive record, while Leverkusen have failed to slay their rivals in their past five attempts.
Last time these two teams met was in the DFB Pokal when German giants Munich needed penalties to edge past their hosts after grinding out a stalemate. Two of their last four tussles have ended as draws in normal time, so Bet Victor’s best price of 5/2 could prove fantastic value.
Leverkusen will certainly be no walk over, especially with Guardiola’s top attacking threats Robert Lewandowski and Arjen Robben both absent through injury.
Roger Schmidt’s side sit fourth but will fancy their chances against the depleted league champions, as they attempt to dislodge Borussia Monchengladbach, who currently hold the last automatic Champions League qualification spot.
Top attacking trio of crafty wingman Karim Bellarabi, South Korea superstar Son Heung-Min and sharpshooter Stefan Kiessling are respective 27/10, 29/10 and 15/4 shouts with Ladbrokes in the anytime market.
In respect of Bayern’s injury blows, the Allianz Arena outfit may have slim pickings up top by their standards. Spain playmaker Thiago Alcantara has shone since his return and is 7/1 to strike anytime with 888sport.
Meanwhile Munich marksman Thomas Muller is being offered by bet365 as 6/1 to strike the first blow, having hit 20 across all competitions this term and Peru poacher Claudio Pizarro is 13/2 to net last with Betfair.
