Basque derby draw looks likely outcome for Moyes’ men

Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad will collide once again in this fierce Basque derby clash with the previous two encounters ending in a draw

Athletic Bilbao will soon host Basque derby rivals Real Sociedad at the San Mames in what is set to be a closely contested La Liga encounter.

Scot David Moyes has become a draw specialist in recent weeks with his Sociedad side and, with the derby having ended in a 1-1 stalemate on the past two occasions, a best priced 29/10 with Bet Victor for a third consecutive share of the spoils looks great value.

Earlier in the current campaign, in the reverse fixture at the Anoeta, Bilbao attacker Oscar De Marcos’ strike after an hour cancelled out Mexican marksman Carlos Vela’s open effort after just three minutes. Former Manchester United boss Moyes has seen his White and Blues secure a draw in three of their previous five league outings, including steady stalemates with European position hopefuls Malaga and Villarreal.

Clinical frontman Vela has struck eight goals in all competitions this term and will be aiming to fire the visitors to further points in this Basque derby match-up, a clash which he relishes the opportunity to star in. The Sociedad sharpshooter is 15/2 with Coral to open proceedings on his side’s travels, having netted three derby goals in as many seasons.

Spanish attacker Imanol Agrirretxe has managed to strike in Sociedad’s last two visits to the San Mames Barria and is 5/2 with Sky Bet to slot home in his third successive away encounter with Basque rivals Bilbao.

Meanwhile, the hosts will be hoping their in-form forward Aritz Aduriz can maintain his rampant run in front of goal this term. The sublime Spanish striker recently reached the 20-goal tally for the campaign with a brilliant brace against Getafe and he is a 4/1 shot with Paddy Power to score last this time out.

Bilbao are odds-on 8/11 with Betfred to secure a win on home soil, while Moyes’ men are available at 9/2 with Bet Victor to triumph, but recent history and past results suggest a third successive stalemate is seemingly likely.
