Blackburn’s FA Cup forward threats to punish porous Liverpool

Rhodes and Gestede have grabbed 33 goals between them this term

Back Blackburn's brilliant frontmen to pose problems for Liverpool in thrilling FA Cup encounter at Ewood Park

Liverpool may be odds-on favourites at 4/6 with William Hill to sweep aside FA Cup quarter-final replay rivals Blackburn Rovers, but the Reds’ recent rearguard wobbles leave room for doubt.

At Ewood Park, Rovers are a best market price of 5/1 with Bet 365 to win over 90 minutes, so must throw caution to the wind and place faith in their fantastic and formidable forward line.

Blackburn boss Gary Bowyer often prefers to plump for just one poacher out of prolific pair Jordan Rhodes and Rudy Gestede, but has little to lose by throwing both marksmen into the fray this time out.

Sought-after centre forward Rhodes has been running rampant despite being regularly linked with a move away from the Lancashire club. The 25-year-old Scotland striker has struck 17 this season, including last time out against Leeds United.

Back the Blackburn top scorer with Bet365 at an exciting 8/1 to grab the opener against a Liverpool side that has leaked seven goals in the past two games.

Partnering Rhodes, if Rovers intend to go for the jugular, should be fearsome France-born forward Gestede, who is an excellent 11/4 with Sky Bet to score anytime. The coveted attacker is also expected to exit Ewood Park this summer after netting 16 times, and impressed at Anfield previously.

In good news for the fervent Rovers faithful, Norwegian forward Joshua King could also be in contention for the clash. Former Manchester United starlet King was a hat-trick hero in the previous round against Stoke City, and the sharpshooter is priced at 18/1 by Coral to poach two or more again if he returns.

Former Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing is cup-tied and will miss the chance to have the final say against his former team, but battling Blackburn should still fancy their chances against Brendan Rodgers’ Reds.

The Merseyside men have plenty of goal threat themselves, however, and will be hoping to turn the tide of their recent poor form by punishing their hosts.

For Liverpool, England international trio Jordan Henderson, Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge are the best punts to prise open Blackburn’s backline, at 6/5, 7/4 and 15/4 to be on target with Bet365 anytime respectively.
