The Madrid derby is always a tempestuous affair, so here are our five picks for players who are card risks

As Real Madrid roll out the welcome mat for cross-capital rivals Atletico, a fiery Champions League quarter-final second leg clash at fortress Bernabeu awaits, with William Hill offering an excellent price of 13/8 for a sending off.

Los Blancos and Atleti fans are well known for the ferocious atmosphere they create on derby days, and a total of 12 players received a yellow card when these two teams contested the final last term. So, we bring you a feisty five who could find themselves in the referee’s bad books again.

Mario Mandzukic
Atletico marksman Mandzukic is an excellent 8/1 with Coral to break the deadlock at the Bernabeu, but the Croatian goal poacher is also 10/1 with BetVictor to be first in another market, by receiving the opening booking.

Mandzukic may have only made his Madrid derby bow back in August, but the ferocious forward saw yellow in the first leg of this duel, and has been carded in all six of his appearances against Los Blancos this campaign.

Sergio Ramos
With 20 yellow cards to his name already this campaign, passionate rearguard enforcer Ramos is available at evens with BetVictor to be cautioned against the Vicente Calderon club.

Having seen yellow in six of his last seven Madrid derbies, the Spain centre back and Real vice-captain certainly has a record, and is 8/1 to be the player first booked, also with BetVictor.

Diego Godin
Another intense defender makes our list to look out for, as Atleti centre half Godin has already captured four cards against rivals Real this season, so BetVictor are offering the tough-tackling Uruguay international at 10/1 to receive the opening card.

Raul Garcia
As an attacking midfielder by trade, guileful Garcia is not blessed with the nous to commit well-timed tackles, but Diego Simeone’s tactics demand every player puts in a defensive effort. Never one to shirk a shift, the Spaniard has been awarded five yellows in his past six against Los Blancos, whether as sub or starter, and is 12/1 with BetVictor to go in the ref’s book first.

Cristiano Ronaldo
Ronaldo has already seen red once this season, and the Portugal skipper and superstar is often targeted due to his competitive nature. Available at 11/4 to be shown a card by BetVictor, or an outside shout at 16/1 to be booked first, the rampant wingman is also priced at 7/2 from bet365 to nab the opening goal.
