Napoli gunning for fourth spot with Fiorentina victory

Champions League hopefuls Napoli are aiming to topple current fourth placed side Fiorentina in their latest Serie A encounter at the Stadio San Paolo

Rafael Benitez’s Napoli side are chasing a Champions League position in the Serie A and know a win over current fourth placed outfit Fiorentina will go a long way in deciding their European fate for next season.

The Little Donkeys will be confident of overcoming the Viola, having secured a victory in their previous two encounters. This included a narrow 1-0 league triumph earlier in the campaign, when Gonzalo Higuain’s strike earned three points last November.

Benitez’s men boast plenty of an astute attacking threat capable of securing another three points, and they are a best priced 21/20 with William Hill to win a third consecutive clash against Vincenzo Montella’s Florence-based outfit.

In-form Argentine attacker Higuain has struck an impressive 22 goals in all competitions this current campaign, and he is a tasty 9/2 with Sky Bet to open proceedings at the Stadio San Paolo in his latest domestic league outing.

The Serie A sharpshooter netted the match winning goal in the two side’s last clash at the Artemio Franchi and is sure to be Napoli’s key goal threat in this crucial matchup.

These two teams have met 129 times in the history of the Italian top-flight, with the Viola leading the head-to-head record with 51 wins to Napoli’s 43. However, Fiorentina have only managed a single triumph since 2010, proving there is much to be improved despite their league standing.

However, despite their poor record, the Italian league high-flyers have enjoyed a superb season, climbing to within a Champions League position, after just one loss in their last 12 Serie A games. The visitors also boast the second best away attack in the division, having struck 23 times, fewer only than Lazio on their travels.

Towering targetman Mario Gomez is yet to score against Napoli in a domestic league meeting, but the former Bayern Munich marksman hit a hat-trick against the Azzurri in a Champions League clash during his time with the Bavarians.

The Florence frontman is 13/8 with Bet365 to score again anytime this time out and break his league duck against Napoli, having already slotted home nine times this term.

All odds were correct at time of posting.
