Troy Deeney’s deadly form a threat to Rams play-off hopes

Watford will travel to Pride Park Stadium aiming to secure a vital three points in the race for the Championship title, as star man Troy Deeney looks to continue rampant run of form

Watford currently hold a promising automatic Championship promotion place but will be aiming to go one further and challenge league leaders Bournemouth for the title, starting with a win over Derby County.

Slavisa Jokanovic’s Hornets have been on a prolific run of form in recent weeks, but hit a stumbling block in their previous outing, as they crashed to a 1-0 home defeat to Ipswich Town. However, they are a best priced at 13/5 with Bet365 to secure a victory on their travels.

Meanwhile, Derby’s form is a complete contrast to that of their opponents, as they have now gone six consecutive domestic league games without a victory. Despite Steve McClaren’s men stuttering of late, they have still managed to remain in a hopeful play-off position, but will need to be wary of Watford’s astute attack in their latest clash.

In-form Hornets hero Troy Deeney is a superb 5/2 chance with 888sport to continue his sublime form this current campaign and strike anytime, having fired in in an incredible 19 goals to boost his side’s chances of a climb to the Premier League for next season.

Deeney will be confident of reaching a potential 20-goal tally for the term against Derby, as he aims to repay the faith shown in him by Italian Watford owners Giampaolo and Gino Pozzo, following previous troubles off the field.

“Since I came back to the club, the Pozzo family have been nothing but good with me. They obviously did not have to keep me when I went away, but they decided to do so,” he said.

The superb striker is only one goal away from becoming the first Watford player to score 20 times in three consecutive seasons and has netted in his last two visits to Derby.

McClaren’s hosts will hope to have leading marksman Chris Martin back after an eight-week spell on the sidelines, while Darren Bent could also feature after an injury problem. Clinical forward Martin is 11/2 with Boylesports to make a goalscoring return by opening proceedings.

In the previous four meetings between these sides there has been a winner in closely contested games, where both teams have been on the scoresheet. The visitors are available at 11/2 with Coral to emerge with a victory with both teams to net this time out.
