4 New York Mets Prop Bets You Should Be Backing This Season

The New York Mets have seen marked improvement the last two seasons, going from 70-92 in 2017 to 77-85 in 2018 then 86-76 last season, sparked by National League Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom and NL Rookie of the Year Pete Alonso.

The Mets look to take another big step, but it won’t be easy in a loaded and deep NL East.

Pete Alonso — Home Run Leader (+1100)

4 New York Mets Prop Bets You Should Be Backing This Season 1

Alonso made his MLB debut in Opening Day of 2019. He proceeded to break the MLB all-time home run record by a rookie, crushing 53 home runs to go with 120 RBI. He led the majors in homers by four — and again, as a rookie. He’ll be swinging for the fences again.

The only players higher than Alonso on the odds board are Mike Trout — the best player in the game who isn’t necessarily looking for homers all of the time — and Joey Gallo, who, like Alonso, aims for the bleachers. But Gallo has led the league in swings and misses over the last three years and is a career .212 hitter. Take Alonso to win the home run title at Unibet .

Jacob deGrom — Most Strikeouts (+1000)

DeGrom has won the last two NL Cy Young Awards. But at +300, there isn’t much value in betting on a third straight, especially with the competition and a penchant for voters to spread the wealth.

But deGrom looks like a sneaky choice to win his first strikeout title. The last three seasons, the strikeout leaders have been won by Chris Sale (302) in 2017, Max Scherzer (300) in 2018 and Gerrit Cole (326) last year. deGrom has finished between 239 and 269 in those three seasons.

But the consistently great deGrom is the only pitcher to finish in the top five all three seasons. He was the top Ks guy in the National League, snapping Scherzer’s three-year reign at the top. While nearly everyone else has ebbed and flowed in Ks, deGrom has been near the top all this time. Take deGrom to take No. 1 at DraftKings .

Edwin Diaz — Most Saves (+1400)

4 New York Mets Prop Bets You Should Be Backing This Season 2

Diaz led the majors in saves in 2018, registering a whopping 57 of them for the Mariners. That was 14 more than anyone else that year. Last year the Mets acquired him and he promptly had the worst season of his four-year career, with just 26 saves and a 5.59 ERA in 66 games.

But he’ll get an opportunity to be the guy in the ninth again for the Mets and prove last year was a fluke. The Mets will be in a competitive division and should be in a number of close games in 2020. If Diaz regains his old form, he’ll be in line for a lot of save opportunities. Take Diaz to win the saves title at BetMGM .

Mets Win Percentage — Under 53.5% (-110)

The Mets have improved at a quick rate the last two seasons. It will be tough to take another sizeable step forward this year — mainly due to the competition.

The NL East is going to be a gauntlet between the Mets, Phillies, Braves and Nationals. Every game will be important — they all may battle each other into oblivion with no team pulling away.

Now with the NL East likely getting paired with the AL East in this shortened 2020 season, that isn’t going to make things any easier with the Yankees, Red Sox, Rays and up-and-coming Blue Jays filling out the rest of the schedule. Take the Under at FanDuel .
