Pittsburgh remains on top of the ACC betting odds this week having clinched a spot in the conference title game Dec. 4 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.

The Panthers are -175 to take the conference, while three teams are still alive in the Atlantic division. Wake Forest (+250) holds a one-game lead and would get in with a win Saturday against Boston College. If Wake Forest loses to Boston College and North Carolina State (+900) beats North Carolina Friday, the Wolfpack would win the Atlantic and play Pitt in the title game.

Clemson also still has an outside shot at +1800 thanks to its blowout win over the Demon Deacons. If Wake Forest and North Carolina State both lose, the Tigers would get in with a win over South Carolina.

The ACC is not the SEC or Big Ten, capable of placing multiple teams in New Year’s Six games. But this isn’t about reputation - it’s about finding best bets at sportsbooks and betting websites, so here’s a guide to helping you do just that in the ACC.

How to Bet on ACC Football

Like every conference, the ACC has certain characteristics that set it apart, and bettors need to take into account when considering weekend wagers. Here are five tips to keep in mind when wagering on your sports betting app:

1. Dominance Comes in Streaks

Florida State was the class of the league from its entrance in 1991 until the founding of the ACC Championship Game, and enjoyed another run at the top of the conference from 2012-14.

In between, Virginia Tech was the program to beat. Ever since, it’s been Clemson, which is on one of the great runs in ACC history, with six league titles, two national championships, and six consecutive College Football Playoff appearances from 2015-2020.

When considering college football odds, futures markets, and season win totals, keep in mind that the league is so top-heavy it’s liable to tip over.

2. The Coastal Is Anybody’s Game

Two of the league’s big three reside in the Atlantic, meaning that the Coastal division is often up for grabs. Between 2013-2019, seven different programs won the Coastal in as many seasons, and Virginia Tech’s fall from national relevance has created a power vacuum nobody’s been able to fill. While the conference went away from divisions in 2020 and welcomed Notre Dame for a one-year stint due to the pandemic, the ACC is returning to a two-division format in 2021.

For bettors, that’s not a bad thing - the Coastal is where you’ll find a slew of competitive games with point spreads and moneylines that can be attractive to the trained eye.

3. The Overs Have It

While it may not be the Big 12, the ACC remains home to a lot of pass-happy offenses capable of producing big point totals.

Syracuse, Duke, North Carolina State, Clemson, Louisville and even Wake Forest employ offensive systems that sling the ball quite a bit, and the result is a dominance of overs - definitely something to keep in mind when perusing game totals for over/under betting.

4. Watch Those Cavaliers

Clemson may be the team winning league and national championships, but when it comes to beating the point spread, take a hard look at Virginia.

The Cavaliers have one of the ACC’s best records in terms of covering in recent years, a function of the program often being overlooked despite going 23-13-1 against the spread over the past three seasons. Clemson often faces massive point spreads, especially against league foes at home.

That’s usually not an issue at Virginia, which continues to remain competitive.

5. It’s Under the Radar

The betting lines of the top teams in college football, a group which certainly includes Clemson, are often influenced by public money - wagers made by casual bettors who are acting out of name recognition or favoritism. The good thing about the ACC?

Compared to other Power 5 leagues, there are many programs (like the aforementioned Virginia, Boston College and North Carolina State) that are capable of bringing value to bettors, and are virtually ignored by the public at large.

Like everything else about the ACC, its football reputation and value to bettors are two completely different things.

ACC Football Championship Betting

Inaugurated in 2005 and played primarily in Charlotte, N.C. - with brief forays to Orlando, Jacksonville, and Tampa, Fla. - the ACC Championship pits the winners of the league’s Atlantic and Coastal divisions, which are not geographically determined.

The results have reflected the unbalanced nature of the league as a whole. Clemson has the most wins with seven in the first 16 title games, while the game has gone over and under eight times each in its 16-year history.
