An underwhelming postseason finish hasn’t done anything to lessen excitement on the South Side of Chicago. The White Sox are still very much a top title contender entering the 2021 MLB season, and perhaps even better-suited to make a deep playoff run.

The White Sox lost their grip on the AL Central race in the final weeks and lost a best-of-three series to the Oakland Athletics as a wild-card team. However, they still turned in their first winning season since 2012 and are hoping to take the next big step beginning in April.

Here are the MLB odds for the 2021 Chicago White Sox and four great prop bets to back.

White Sox World Series Odds (+1000, William Hill)

Chicago enters the new season with its best World Series betting odds in more than a decade. The White Sox are listed at +1000 to win it all at William Hill, trailing just three other teams – the Los Angeles Dodgers (+350), New York Yankees (+550) and San Diego Padres (+900).

Aside from a few key offseason personnel moves, the White Sox also pulled 76-year-old skipper Tony La Russa out of retirement to lead the team. La Russa retired in 2011 after winning his second World Series with the St. Louis Cardinals and third overall.

Ownership is hoping the Hall of Fame manager is just what this talented, young roster needs to reach the pinnacle and bring a trophy back to the South Side.

White Sox Odds to Win the AL (+425, PointsBet)

Oddsmakers certainly like Chicago’s chances to take the pennant, listing the White Sox second on the board in terms of odds to win the American League.

PointsBet lists the White Sox at +425 to win the AL – only the Yankees (+235) have shorter odds, and they are the two consensus favorites with the Minnesota Twins (+700) and Toronto Blue Jays (+800) next in AL odds.

The White Sox are firmly in contender mode and in the market for immediate impact players, which they got in starting pitcher Lance Lynn from the Texas Rangers. They also bolstered the bullpen by signing Liam Hendricks – the veteran reliever posted a 1.80 ERA in his last full season with the Athletics in 2019.

Chicago had one of the best team ERAs in baseball last season and an already-talented staff definitely improved this offseason. Whether it comes together remains to be seen, but the White Sox clearly have all the talent to compete for a pennant.

White Sox Odds To Win The AL Central (-115, FanDuel)

The White Sox are hoping to take the division for the first time since 2008 after coming painstakingly close last season. They’re significant favorites in the MLB futures odds to win the AL Central at FanDuel, listed first at -133.

The Twins (+160) aren’t far behind, but otherwise this looks like a two-team race and the AL Central is up for grabs as the Cleveland Indians (+650), Kansas City Royals (+4000) and Detroit Tigers (+4000) shouldn’t pose much of a threat.

There’s plenty of pop in the lineup, with the White Sox finishing third in the MLB in home runs, sixth in team batting average and eighth in team OPS in 2020. There’s still tons of power in the middle of the lineup with Yasmani Grandal, Jose Abreu, Yoan Moncada and Luis Robert.

The team also welcomed back outfielder Adam Eaton, who played for the White Sox from 2014-16, on a one-year deal. If Chicago stays healthy, it has one of the scariest lineups in the MLB. It certainly looks like enough to take the division for a team that had the best record in the AL much of last season before tumbling out of the division lead in the home stretch.

4 Great White Sox Prop Bets To Back

Jose Abreu - RBI Leader (+2200, FOX Bet)

Those are pretty long odds at FOX Bet for the reigning AL MVP. Abreu is still in his prime at 34 and led all hitters with 60 RBI in the shortened 2020 season. He was also second in 2019 and first in the AL with 123 RBI, just three less than MLB leader Anthony Rendon (126).

That’s been a big focus in spring training, and if he cuts down on the strikeout numbers and gives himself more chances, we wouldn’t be surprised to see him post some big numbers on the base paths.

Tony La Russa – AL Manager of the Year (+450, DraftKings)

One has to figure La Russa will be a huge part of the story if the White Sox match or exceed expectations. Chicago hasn’t won big in a while and is taking a bit of a gamble on La Russa, who hasn’t led an MLB club in a decade and puts forth a surly demeanor on the diamond.

Many questioned the decision to bring in a grizzled veteran rather than a younger manager more likely to relate to this youth-filled club. However, if the players buy into La Russa’s approach and he’s able to lead the White Sox to a division title, it will look like a brilliant move, and the sports world will fawn over the baseball lifer once more.
