After two weeks of dramatic group games Euro 2020 now enters the knockout stage, where 16 teams remain in the battle to be crowned European soccer champions.

All the big nations you’d expect to cruise through the groups and into the knockout bracket have done so – and with them plenty of bettors at the sports betting sites and betting apps have already won big on straightforward Euro 2020 bets. However, more upsets and against-the-odds wins are expected in the elimination round, where even one mistake could send a country home.

France remains the favorite to win Euro 2020 but Didier Deschamps’ men struggled at times in the group stage. So did England, whose soccer betting odds have widened since the beginning of the tournament, which hints that some bettors are starting to believe this may not be the Three Lions’ year after all.

So, what will happen in the Euro 2020 knockout round? Will Germany stun England in the last 16? Can Wales reach the semifinals once again? And who will finish Euro 2020 top scorer? Read on for the latest tips for where you could win big this summer with the best online sportsbooks.

Euro 2020 Betting Tips & Expert Picks

The latest Euro 2020 odds have France sitting happily as favorites, but remarkably England has dropped to +650 with the bookies. Italy, following a magnificent group stage, is now the No. 2 favorite with DraftKings sportsbook at +600. The Italians play Austria in the last 16 with that winner facing either Belgium or Portugal in the quarterfinals.

The team with arguably the easiest route to the final is the Netherlands (+1200). Their last-16 clash with the Czech Republic should be reasonably straightforward, and soccer betting fans would likely back the Dutch to beat either Wales or Denmark in the quarters.

The Euro 2020 group stage gave us a strong indication of which teams will succeed and which could fall in the knockout rounds. Netherlands and Italy greatly impressed, while Germany and Spain looked nothing like their former selves. So, here are three soccer betting tips for what might happen between now and the final.

Netherlands To Reach Final

Again, the Dutch are in a very good bracket and should reach the semifinals without a problem. They are more attack-minded than last-16 opponents Czech Republic and have the quality to see off either Denmark or Wales after that.

If Netherlands faces Germany or England in the semifinals, the Dutch would likely start as underdogs. But that only makes their odds even more welcoming because, as we’ve seen, the Dutch are playing with confidence and have a good balance between offence and defense. The Euro 2020 longshots could make the final – though winning the tournament is perhaps a step too far.

Penalties For England-Germany

Any English fan will tell you that the one team they crave beating most is Germany. That’s mainly because of defeats to the Germans in the 1990 and 2010 World Cups, and at Euro 1996. Both losses in the ‘90s were dealt during penalty kick shootouts and England hasn’t very really recovered from that misery.

Tuesday, June 29 sees England host Germany at Wembley Stadium. Remarkably the Three Lions are favorites to win at +155 at DraftKings, with the Germans +200. But fate says this match will go beyond 90 minutes (a tie in regulation is +215 odds) and into a shoot-out so that’s where your best bet is. The next question, then, is will the English redeem themselves for 30 years of pain? The heart says yes, the head says no.

Italy To Reach Semifinals

Winning Euro 2020 may be too much of a stretch for Italy despite mesmerizing performances in the group stage. Unfortunately for manager Roberto Mancini, the knockout bracket doesn’t look friendly. If the Italians beat Austria, they will face either Belgium or Portugal in the quarters, then potentially Spain or France in the semis. Can they overcome some of the biggest teams in Europe not once but twice?

Marco Verratti’s presence in midfield certainly aids Italy but the team might struggle to handle the emphatic power of Belgium or France. The semis is about as far as the Italians will progress, which for a team with low expectation levels entering the tournament is a reasonable feat. A wager on Italy at +133 with Unibet to finish in the tournament’s top four teams is a good play.

Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo is unsurprisingly the new favorite to win the Euro 2020 Golden Boot after he scored five goals scored in the group stage. Ronaldo scored twice each against France and Hungary and found the net in Portugal’s 4-2 defeat to Germany.

The forward has a killer eye for goal and his new odds with FanDuel sportsbook reflect that. Romelu Lukaku is Belgium’s main man up front and could push Ronaldo for the Golden Boot – especially if Belgium eliminates Portugal. Meanwhile, the Czech Republic’s Patrik Schick is priced at +3500 at FanDuel despite his three goals from the group stage. Those high odds reflect the likelihood of the Czechs exiting the tournament soon.
