Indian Wells is the first big hard-court tournament of the spring and bookmakers across the country are offering their unique tennis betting specials on the competition.
Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are the three favourites to win the men’s singles title this year.
But the women’s draw is far more open, with a host of players targeting an early WTA Premier trophy this early in the campaign.
Bookmakers who specialise on tennis betting have been crunching the odds to find you the most enticing markets to bet on.
Here, we take a look a four betting specials you should consider…
Djokovic The Massive Men’s Favourite
Novak Djokovic is the eye-wateringly heavy favourite to win the men’s singles title at Indian Wells this year. Djokovic has won Indian Wells five times and heads into the tournament having dropped just two sets on his way to the Australian Open title two months ago.
Djokovic is 3/1 with RedBet to win Indian Wells for a sixth time. That is a very confident price — but the confidence is justified.
Djokovic’s two main opponents - Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer - have both exposed their weaknesses this season. Federer was an early exit in Melbourne, while Nadal was smashed by Djokovic in three sets during their Australian Open final.
Since then, Nadal has endured a miserable time at the Mexican Open - losing early to Nick Kyrgios - and Federer has battled through two tournaments, winning one.
It’s fair to say neither Nadal nor Federer will be 100 per cent - either through fitness or form - heading into Indian Wells. This title is Djokovic’s for the taking!
Kyrgios Good Value
Nick Kyrgios was at his brilliant best as he won the Acapulco title last week. He controversially beat Rafael Nadal on his way to the final and dismantled Alexander Zverev to win his first title since January 2018.
Kyrgios is 15/1 with 888Sport to win this title. He is well worth watching here. Yes, the Aussie could bomb in the first round. But Acapulco proved he has the ability - when he wants to apply it - to be a world beater.
Serena Still The Favourite
Serena Williams has not played since her quarter-final exit at the Australian Open two months ago. Yet the American is the 6/1 favourite to win the title here! Williams has not won this title since 2001 – largely because of her 13-year boycott of the tournament over allegations of racism.
Williams is still the main draw in women’s tennis but her powers are waning. Her last Grand Slam triumph was in Melbourne in 2017 and, at the age of 37, the rest of the WTA are starting to overtake the iconic star.
BetVictor have Naomi Osaka at 8/1to win the Indian Wells title. And that is a great price for a player who won the Australian Open back in January. Her defeated finalist Petra Kvitova is 10/1, with current World Number 2 Simona Halep at 8/1.
Belinda Bencic — the Dubai champion last month — is well priced at 25/1 considering her form right now.
Winning Half In The WTA
Osaka will be seeded first for Indian Wells, with Halep second seed. It means they will be split in the draw and would not meet until the final. As expected, Osaka and Sloane Stephens should be in the upper half of the draw. And Karamba have the upper half of the draw at 23/20 to produce the tournament champion.
That is a great bet, with the lower half priced at 20/41. The upper half will have Osaka - the Australian Open champion and last year’s Indian Wells winner!
Stephens has endured a tricky start to the 2019 campaign but will have a home crowd behind her in California next week. Last year’s WTA Finals runner-up is 20/1 to win the title.
Keep an eye on the Indian Wells draw this week. If Serena Williams is also placed in the upper half of the draw, then this is a great bet.
