2019 All-Star Game Betting Picks

MLB All-Star Game 2019 Betting Picks, Predictions & Preview 1

PICK 1: Cody Bellinger, MVP

Anytime I can get Cody Bellinger for anything at +900 it is a value bet, and he’s +1500 here. I like this one because he gets to face off against Justin Verlander, who has been struggling with almost a 5.00 ERA the last 30 days and is coming off short rest.

Put a hot-hitting Bellinger in a great situation early in the game and you have my vote. Bellinger will have two lefties ahead of him in the first inning vs Verlander. I project one of those lefties to get on base and could be the runner on base Bellinger needs for a two-RBI swing.

PICK 2: Mike Trout, MVP

This is just too juicy not to take at +950. I like to bet on at least one guy who has been in this game plenty of times. Trout has already received the award twice in this game, so you already know he is clutch. Also, the AL has had six straight MVP awards. Give me the best player in the game who has done it twice before everytime.

Look for Trout to get a good pitch off Ryu in the first inning.

PICK 3: Parlay American League ML & OVER 8.5

I believe this game will come down to depth. The American League has a deeper and better pitching staff as well as a great bench with Mookie Betts, Matt Chapman, Xander Bogaerts and Joey Gallo. I think the AL and the OVER pairs well at +245, with the American League getting better matchups vs. a weaker set of National League relievers.

I’ll take Ryan Pressly, Brad Hand and Arodis Chapman late in the game over Will Smith, Felipe Vazquez and Josh Hader, who is day-to-day and not at full strength.

PICK 4: First 3 Innings OVER 1 Run

MLB All-Star Game 2019 Betting Picks, Predictions & Preview 2
AL starting pitcher Justin Verlander has struggled over the past month.

This is another Verlander fade. I can see the NL getting this in the first inning alone. Add Hyun-jin Ryu to the mix as an All-Star starter for the NL and you will likely see some first time jitters. This is a bright stage for a pitcher who has been under the radar.

I see Ryu possibly serving one up against Trout early. At worst, I think has great value for a push. If we can’t get two runs, one does not hurt us.

PICK 5: Game Total OVER 8.5

This year has been one of the worst years ever for relievers. Just ask the Mets and Nationals. Even if this game starts off slow with runs – which I don’t expect – you cannot rule out late-inning runs off the relievers. There’s just too many stars in this game and too many relievers to not trust.

Yes, these are All-Star relievers, but even the greats cannot be trusted this season with the ball in their hand as of late. I see early and late runs to push this to double digits.

PICK 6: AL Moneyline

The American League has the lineup advantage with two on-base machines in George Springer and DJ LeMahieu batting in front of Trout. This leads me to think the American League can get out to a fast start in the first three innings.

There is still question that Christian Yelich will play due to back stiffness, although it’s likely. That question mark alone is worth a few cents on the moneyline in American League value. The AL is much deeper and has Chapman, Gallo and Betts off the bench with a deeper pitching staff.

PICK 7: First Inning OVER 0.5 Runs

I mentioned earlier that I think Verlander is in a bad spot on short rest and that Ryu may have some big-stage jitters. He is not used to this much of limelight. All it takes is one pitch from two pitchers not in ideal spots for Tuesday’s All-Star Game to get one run scored. I will take my chances with the best players in the game vs. these pitchers to get a run in the first frame.
