Utah is now a large Pac-12 favorite after the Utes dismantled Oregon in a 38-7 win over the Ducks that completely changed the tone of the conference race with one week to go.

That win clinched a spot in the conference title game for Utah. Now Oregon is down to +215 and facing a massive game against Oregon State (+1800), with the North division hanging in the balance. If the Ducks win, they’re in and will get a rematch against the Utes in the championship game. If Oregon State wins and Washington State (+1800) loses, the Beavers are in.

Washington State holds the tiebreaker over Oregon State and still has a chance – if the Cougars beat Washington and Oregon State beats Oregon, Washington State would face Utah in the title game.

Let’s a take a closer look at the conference and examine how to bet it at sportsbooks and betting sites.

How to Bet on Pac-12 Football

You can bet on the Pac-12 if you live in one of the states that has legalized sports betting. Of interest to Pac-12 fans, Arizona sports betting recently went live, just in time for the beginning of the college football season.

Like every conference, the Pac-12 has certain characteristics that set it apart, and bettors need to take into account when considering weekend wagers. Here are five tips to keep in mind when you open your sports betting app:

1. West Coast Games

The first thing you will want to keep in mind is that this is the conference that includes the most West Coast teams. That means its games start later in the day. Often times, college football betting fans will use these games to “chase” or try to win money back as the contest will commence around 7 p.m. ET or later.

Teams such USC, UCLA and Arizona will play at around 10:30 p.m. ET, offering college football bettors a chance at last call.

2. Games Are High-Scoring

Although Washington has brought some defense to the conference, typically, this conference is all about offense. Utah has become a gritty defensive team and USC has been tough in the past, but it’s not common for more than two or three teams to have a strong defense in a given year.

Usually, offensive talent shines in these games, which is why we’ll see a lot of high totals and high scoring games in the Pac-12, meaning high numbers in over/under betting.

3. Big Difference Between Haves, Have Nots

While some conferences have more parity, the Pac-12 is really a difference of the haves and have-nots. That’s important to note when you’re placing your bets for futures to win the conference. USC, UCLA, Washington, Stanford and Oregon get the best talent; the rest of the conference is hit-or-miss.

Those five teams have combined to play in the Pac-12 Championship Game 15 times in the first 10 years of its existence and accounted for all of the wins. Keep that in mind when looking at the college football odds each week, including both point spreads and moneylines.

4. Teams Maintain Characteristics

Of course, things can change over time but for whatever reason, the Pac-12 seems to maintain certain characteristics.

For example, with USC, you can count on them to recruit the best players. Whether they can develop them into stars or not will depend on the coaching staff, but this team regularly gets the top recruits.

As for Stanford, they don’t look for stars necessarily, they look for big road-grading offensive and defensive linemen, and try to win by grinding teams down on the lines of scrimmage.

UCLA frequently has a top-flight quarterback, Oregon is usually a one-dimensional team with an explosive offense and Utah – under Kyle Whittingham – has had fantastic defense and special teams lately.

This is handy to know when you’re betting the individual matchups.

5. Pac-12 One Of The Weaker Power Conferences

The Pac-12 has fallen on some hard times over the last few years. Its teams have not fared well on a national level and tend to get worked in non-conference play against stronger conferences.

Of the five power conferences, the Pac-12 has had the fewest appearances at the College Football Playoff. In non-conference play against similarly-sized programs in the SEC, Big Ten or Big 12, the Pac-12 tends to struggle.

For example, Washington lost to Auburn in Week 1 in the 2018 season at a neutral site, USC lost to Texas and Notre Dame, and UCLA lost to Oklahoma. The Pac-12 has gone a combined 8-18 in bowl season since 2017.

Pac-12 Football Championship Betting

The Pac-12 Championship Game is the product of the two division champions, North and South. Remember that this doesn’t factor overall record; it’s the teams with the best conference records in each division.

One interesting note about Pac-12 Championship Games since the start of the format in 2011: The South champion has beaten the North champion only once in 10 tries, coming in 2017 when USC beat Stanford.
