Like almost every other sporting event these days, the 2021 Sentry Tournament of Champions in Lahaina, Hawaii will look a little different when it comes to golf betting.
The field was temporarily expanded to include players who finished in the top 30 of the FedEx Cup Standings, so the winners-only vibe is gone. The field looks pretty strong as a result, with guys such as Xander Schauffele, Hideki Matsuyama and Tony Finau sneaking in on points.
Betting favorite Dustin Johnson got in the old-fashioned way and is coming off the biggest win of his life at the 2020 Masters. He’s listed at +650 at Kapalua’s Plantation Course, ahead of Justin Thomas (+750) and Jon Rahm (+800). Schauffele is fourth on the board at +1000 while reigning U.S. Open champ Bryson DeChambeau is fifth at +1150.

Hideki Matsuyama to Win (+1800)
When looking for a little more value outside of the usual suspects, we like Matsuyama a lot. In three prior starts at this golf course, he finished T-3 in 2015, solo second in 2017 and T-4 in 2018. He was also close to winning at the end of last season with a T-2 at the Houston Open before a T-13 at the Masters.
Putting is still an issue and always will be, but that doesn’t matter as much at the Plantation Course. He fell off the radar for a while after an insane 2017 that included three PGA Tour wins, but he looks to be all systems go entering 2021. We wouldn’t be surprised at all to see him start the new year with a victory. Get the best odds with BetMGM.

Dustin Johnson (-125) over Jon Rahm
Johnson had plenty of time to celebrate in his new green jacket, and we’re guessing he did it big. Now it looks like he’s back to business. We couldn’t help but notice DJ teeing off before 7 a.m. for a Monday morning practice round, and he was back at it before sunrise again on Tuesday. He’s finished inside the top 10 in eight consecutive starts here and won twice in that stretch.
Rahm enters the new year with new equipment after inking a deal with Callaway. Consider us a bit skeptical of the accompanying news release that said Rahm carded a 59 in his first round with the new sticks. We’re not saying it didn’t happen. We’re just saying we don’t bet based on advertisements.
Golfers are creatures of habit and equipment changes can be dicey. It might take Rahm some time to get settled in, and there’s no way we’re fading Johnson at this course. DJ is the smart play here at Unibet.

Martin Laird (-150) over Hudson Swafford
Both of these players sort of came out of nowhere to win recently and book their tickets to Hawaii. But Laird has been the better option in recent months. He at least had a few solid results in the weeks prior to the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open victory.
Swafford got super-hot to win in the Dominican Republic, but he has missed the cut in nine of his past 13 tournaments. He also finished T-27 and 22 shots behind winner Dustin Johnson at his only pervious start here in 2018. This is more of a Swafford fade than a Laird play, but we’re still comfortable with Laird’s odds at -150 with FanDuel.

Stewart Cink (+110) over Marc Leishman
In news that won’t exactly lead SportsCenter but remains highly relevant for our purposes, Cink gained about 20 yards with the driver during the offseason. He told reporters it was a simple setup adjustment. The numbers back that up as he’s now averaging 308.2 yards off the tee at age 47.
That’s a significant advantage at this massive layout. Leishman is still trying to get his game back on track and actually lost distance at the start of the wraparound season. He’s nearly 20 yards behind Cink, averaging 289 yards, and the irons aren’t great either. We’re gladly taking Cink +110 here at DraftKings.

Patrick Reed (-122) over Webb Simpson
You never have to worry about Reed showing up just to enjoy the weather. One of the fiercest competitors on Tour is also one of the best at Kapalua, with Reed finishing T-6 or better in five of his last six starts here. That includes a win and two runner-ups.
Simpson hasn’t been quite as good on this course and has only played it once since 2014. Reed has been carding great results on the PGA and European Tours in recent months, and this is clearly one of his favorite tracks. All over Reed -122 in this matchup at DraftKings.
