Horse Racing Tips of the Day – Friday January 19

Both of today's best bets are in action on the all-weather at Lingfield

Our racing expert marks your card for Friday's action.

Nicola Currie is proving exceptional value for her 5lb claim with her last 40 rides yielding seven winners (18%) and she has a couple of decent chances at Lingfield this afternoon.

For starters, she gets the leg up on INUK in the 5f handicap for three-year-olds for which her mount has been put in as a general 7/4 favourite. That’s understandable as the Richard Hughes-trained filly is the clear form choice having won two of her last four starts since being fitted with cheek-pieces, and she might have finished closer than third at Kempton last time but for veering sharply left as the stalls opened and then having to cover plenty of extra ground to get back into contention.

That was over 6f and both of her wins on Polytrack have been over that trip, with Currie on board each time, but she definitely has the pace for 5f as she showed when finishing a close third in a class 5 run over track and trip in November. The daughter of Kodiac can race off the same mark this afternoon in what is an easier race, while a low draw in stall two doesn’t harm her chances either.

There is plenty of winning course and distance form on display in the 1m2f handicap and Miss Minuty, who lives up to her name as she is tiny, is chasing a hat-trick over this track and trip. She looks sure to go close but this is more competitive than she is used to and she also has a career-high mark to overcome, so on balance she is opposable at cramped odds.

Music Major is another course and distance winner and he didn’t get the best of passages through the race when bidding to follow up here, having to settle for second behind the re-opposing BAYSTON HILL, who is worse off at today’s weights. However, the latter horse may well be able to confirm that form as he won on merit, pulling away in the closing stages to win by two and a half lengths under today’s rider Nicola Currie, whose 5lb claim is like gold dust. His subsequent fifth at Wolverhampton 16 days ago is better than it looks as he didn’t have the run of the race and clearly still in good form, he is taken to get back to winning ways.

A £10 double on today’s selections at current bet365 odds (7/4 & 5/1 – subject to change, check the bet365 site for the latest) pays £165.
