Horse Racing Tips of the Day – Monday December 4

Both of today's best bets are in action at Plumpton

Our racing expert marks your card for Monday's action, with a couple of Plumpton runners catching the eye.

Tambura is bidding to win the 3m mares’ handicap hurdle for the third straight year and she lines up on a mark 3lb lower than 12 months ago. She should make a bold bid for the hat-trick, but CULTURE DE SIVOLA is much preferred for the in-form Nick Williams.

Unexposed as a stayer, she showed improved form when upped to this staying trip on her reappearance at Chepstow, coming home much the strongest of her rivals, and the form was given a boost when the runner-up won his next start by 17 lengths. A subsequent 5lb looks very fair in light of that and there should be plenty more to come from the lightly-raced five-year-old this winter, with her ability to handle ease in the ground proven.

Jamie Moore, who is one of the leading riders at the track, is taking over from the sidelined Sam Twiston-Davies and he can make his first ride for the stable a winning one.

Flight Commander has been put in as favourite for the 3m1f handicap chase and that’s understandable as he was a close second at Fontwell in March off a 1lb higher mark than today’s and made a respectable return to action at Kempton in October. However, his overall record of 1-14 suggests he’s far from unbeatable and a chance is taken on the fitness of former stablemate AMBERJAM, who is having his first start for Lucy Wadham.

She does well with staying chasers and in the selection has inherited a progressive sort who showed a gutsy attitude when winning on his chase debut at at Uttoxeter in January, having scored over hurdles at the same track on his previous start. Those races run on desperate ground clearly left their mark as he was pulled up on his two subsequent starts. However, he remains well treated in this sphere on a mark of 108 and he also benefits here from Thomas Cheeseman’s 5lb claim.

He might be a Midlands National horse one day given he’s a resolute galloper who handles plenty of cut in the ground, and I fancy he can make the most of the 6lb he receives from the favourite this afternoon.
