Horse Racing Tips of the Day – Monday July 2

Our racing expert marks your card for Monday's action at Windsor.

SISTER CELINE could be the answer to the opening fillies’ handicap run over an extended 1m3f. Roger Charlton’s showed little in three starts as a juvenile but she was also likely to do better once handicapping and so it proved on her reappearance at Salisbury (1m) 15 days ago, when finishing fourth of the eight runners. That form is nothing to get too excited about and others have stronger form claims. However, she very much ran as though longer distances were required, so today’s trip should suit, and she can surely pick up a race off her lowly mark (57). The stable form – five winners from 18 runners (28%) in the last fortnight – and the booking of the in-form Eddie Greatrex are the clinchers for the bet.

Eve Johnson Houghton’s ICE AGE is taken to shrug off top weight in the 6f handicap under regular partner Charles Bishop. The five-year-old will find this much easier than the Wokingham last time and he went into that race in good form, having made all to win a class 2 at Newbury. A progressive sort in 2017, he can be forgiven two mediocre efforts earlier in the season as they were on the all-weather, which he doesn’t like, and we know he goes well here as one of his seven victories came over track and trip.

His five rivals this evening all have something to prove coming into this, with Tupi seemingly out of sorts and finishing behind the selection at Royal Ascot last time, while Gracious John is better over 5f.

AL OZZDI looks the one to be on in the closing 1m handicap with Oisin Murphy taking the reigns. Simon Crisford’s three-year-old was disappointing at Musselburgh on his reappearance back in May but he ran much better with the hood off at Yarmouth last time, finishing third in that class 4 contest. A similar effort here would surely see him go close in what is a weaker race and having been dropped again by the handicapper to a mark of 71. This fast ground suits him too as he showed when beating the now 87-rated Tadleel at Brighton last August.
