Fresh from a winning double at York on Saturday, our resident tipster is hoping to take some more money off bookmakers this afternoon.
Luca Cumani has his team in good form and he has double prospects at Brighton this afternoon.
First up, his MY FAVOURITE THING looks the answer to the 7f maiden (3.20pm). The daughter of Oasis Dream was quietly fancied for her debut in a decent maiden at Newmarket and while she could finish only seventh, it was a promising introduction nonetheless and especially when you consider the stable juveniles invariably improve for the run.
She will be fitter and more streetwise for this afternoon’s contest and, with Adam Kirby taking over from a 3lb claimer, she can take care of seven rivals. The best of these may be Prince Of Arran, who went close in an Epsom maiden last time. However, he’s more bred for middle distances and may already need a mile, whereas the selection is more speedily bred.
The clincher for the bet is Cumani’s record at the track. The Newmarket handler has run 17 horses here over the last five seasons and seven of them (41%) have ended up in the winner’s circle, with two of his five juveniles obliging.
His record with handicappers is just an eye-catching, with his last seven runners in such contests finishing 231011, and that’s a big pointer to his LILIAN BAYLIS in the 1m2f handicap run later on the card (3.50pm).
One of five three-year-old old runners in the field, she opened her account over today’s trip at Pontefract two starts back before finishing second over 1m4f at Doncaster last time, when possibly finding the ground a little too lively. Back down in trip today and on a more suitable surface (currently “good to soft”), she could make the necessary progress to land this, with William Haggas’ hat-trick seeking Zaaneh the biggest danger.
The My Favourite Thing-Lilian Baylis double pays 20/1 at Paddy Power.
