Horse Racing Tips of the Day – Thursday October 11

Our racing expert marks your card for the afternoon action at Ayr.

DUQUESA BEACH is progressing with her racing and she wouldn’t have to find much more improvement (if at all) on what is just her fifth start to be a factor in the class 5 1m2f handicap at an each-way price.

Trained by Lee Smyth in County Down, she has already had a sighter of this track having run in a 7f novice here at the beginning of August, when bumping into a progressive sort and finishing a clear second best (one place ahead of the odds-on favourite).

While only third on her subsequent and most recent outing at Listowel (1m), that has to go down as another promising effort, especially as she was slightly hampered in the final furlong, causing the saddle of her apprentice rider to slip.

That’s more than enough to suggest she can be competitive off her current mark, with her style of racing encouraging in terms of her staying today’s longer trip, and the booking of Paul Hanagan, who is 1-2 on the stable runners for a £1 level-stakes profit of £9.00, suggests that connections mean business.

FALMOUTH LIGHT makes plenty of appeal in the class 4 6f handicap having run well here the last twice over 7f, giving the impression he would be suited by dropping back a furlong.

That’s a little surprising given that he won over 1m2f on soft ground at Doncaster when making his stable debut for Iain Jardine back in June, before a couple of well beaten efforts over 1m1f on ground probably faster than he likes.

But he’s shown plenty of speed on his two most recent outings in class 3s over 7f, finishing third on both occasions and looking like the winner for most of the home straight just nine days ago. He couldn’t quite see it out on that occasion after travelling strongly and it wouldn’t have helped his cause that he lost his left hind shoe.

Today’s race represents a drop in grade for the three-year-old and he’s also taking on more exposed rivals, many of whom are out of form, while the booking of Callum Rodriguez, who is 6-25 on the stable runners, is another positive.
