ALEJANDRO looks the one to be on in the 1m100y handicap. David Loughnane’s charge wouldn’t be improving as a nine-year-old but he’s certainly well treated on a mark of 83, which is 15lb lower than his peak rating and 3lb lower than when winning over this track and trip a year ago. He might have taken advantage at Chester last week but for enduring a luckless run and having to be switched wide, before running on all too late into third. On that evidence, the veteran’s tenth career win is imminent and this looks an ideal opportunity from a good draw in stall two and with Robert Winston renewing the partnership.
Tim Easterby’s BREATHABLE could be the answer to the 1m1f207y handicap as he looks to be on a good mark (64) and promises to be suited by this far. His three runs at two all came over a mile and whilst he showed promise in twice finishing third, he proved a little one-paced at the business end. Making his reappearance at Thirsk last month after seven months off and having been gelded in the meantime, he again looked to find a mile on the sharp side, doing all his best work late on to grab fifth. He’s by sprinter Bated Breath but his dam was a Listed winner over 1m2f and he’s clearly inherited some of her stamina, so further progress can be expected over this new trip and with that run under his belt.
Rae Guest has his small string in good nick, as evidenced by two winners from just six runners in the past fortnight, and DAME NELLIE, his sole runner at the Yorkshire track in the 1m4f handicap, can keep the good run going. She failed to better sixth on her first four career starts, all on the all-weather, but then showed marked improvement when switched to turf at Salisbury 15 days ago (1m2f, heavy), staying on into second and giving the impression she would relish 1m4f on a sounder surface. While the handicapper has bumped her up 3lb for that, she’s surely a. good better than her mark of 56 and the booking of the in-form Paul Hanagan catches the eye, with all rides for the stable yielding a £22.50 level-stakes profit.
