Horse Racing Tips of the Day – Wednesday December 13

Toady's nap is in action at Lingfield

Our racing expert marks your card for Wednesday's action.

Archie Watson has his string in excellent form with four winners from just 14 runners (29%) in the last fortnight and he looks to have several chances this afternoon.

The Upper Lambourn-based trainer is solely represented by ZENOVIA at Wolverhampton, where he has a near 1-3 strike rate, and the filly looks a worthy favourite for division 1 of the 6f handicap. A comfortable winner over course and distance in October, she has continued to run well since and has had excuses for her last two defeats. At Lingfield two starts back, she was denied a clear run when trying to deliver her challenge and it’s fair to say she would have won that day given she was less than a length behind the winner at the line, while she didn’t appear to enjoy the kickback when finishing seventh at Southwell last time. Now back on her favourite surface and with a decent draw in stall three, she must go close.

Her stablemate ATTAIN could bring up the stable double when he runs in division two of the 1m2f handicap at Lingfield, having caught the eye when coming out worst in a three-way finish over 1m4f here seven days ago. He’s much better over today’s shorter trip, with all bar two of his nine career wins coming over it, and he clearly likes this track having found the winners’ enclosure five times. Course win number six looks a distinct possibility now that he has dropped back to a mark 4lb lower than his last winning one, and his regular pilot Eddie Greatrex should be able to make use of what looks a good draw in stall two.

It might be expecting too much for a stable treble, but ERINEYES is certainly not without a chance in the 1m4f handicap run earlier on the Lingfield card. She clearly didn’t handle fast turf or the tight track when turned over as even money favourite at Musselburgh in August, and we know she handles Polytrack as she won a Kempton maiden over this trip on her reappearance in July. That performance also showed that she can go well fresh and I’ll be very surprised if her current mark of 75 is the ceiling of her ability. In which case, she’s got to be worth a small interest in an open contest.

Lingfield 1.00, Erineyes @ 8/1 bet365
Wolverhampton 2.15, Zenovia @ 15/8 Coral
Lingfield 3.00, Attain (nap) @ 9/4 Betfair
