Our resident tipster likes the look of a trio of runners, including a 9/1 shot.
Leicester provides today’s jumps action and it’s the handicaps at the Midlands venue that house two of today’s bets.
I’m a big fan of trainer Ben Pauling and SPACE WALKER, his sole runner at the track, must go close in the closing 2m4f handicap hurdle (due off 3.35pm) on the heavy ground he relishes. A decent juvenile last season he looked to have strengthened up when reappearing at Warwick last month and he very nearly broke his duck over hurdles, only finding Dazinski a three-quarter length too good. With that run under his belt and with his stable in flying form, he can go one better under Nico de Boinville, who has a 25% strike rate for the stable.
Trainer quote: “He pulled hard at times when finishing second on his seasonal debut at Warwick. I think he has the ability to win a 20-furlong handicap hurdle on very soft ground.”
Neil King ended a quiet run when sending out Lil Rockerfeller to win at Sandown on Saturday and that bodes well for that horse’s stablemate KELTIC RHYTHM, who is making his seasonal reappearance in the 2m6f handicap chase (2.35pm). The eight-year-old has not been out since finishing third in a Kempton handicap hurdle in May, but he has gone well fresh in the past and on won his two chase victories came at this track. Described by his trainer as a “brilliant jumper”, he looks good value at the 11/2 on offer.
The all-weather action is far from shabby and I’m not going to turn down the opportunity to back a 9/1 winner, which is the price on offer for HILLBILLY BOY in the Class 3 7f handicap at Lingfield (2.25pm). Tom Dascombe’s charge ran perfectly well in a Class 2 over 1m here recently, finishing just over four lengths behind the winner after doing perhaps too much early on, and he’s handicapped to win on a mark just 2lb higher than his last winning one. The drop back to 7f is another positive as he’s 2-2 over track and trip.
All odds were correct at time of posting.
