Mourinho set to replace Louis van Gaal as United manager, with the bookies making Red Devils fourth favourites
No sooner had Manchester United landed the FA Cup on Saturday evening had news emerged that Jose Mourinho was expected to take over as new manager this week.
It was strange timing and clearly not the way that Louis van Gaal wanted things to turn out, with the Dutchman having spoken to the fans at Old Trafford only days earlier and suggested he was going to remain in charge.
LVG is now certain to leave and his former assistant Mourinho will attempt to restore the club to previous glory, with Ladbrokes offering 13/2 about Manchester United winning the 2016/17 Premier League title.
The former Chelsea and Real Madrid coach will take charge of a squad featuring several quality players including Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and David de Gea, although Mourinho will surely want to put his own stamp on things.
United are involved in the Europa League next season although Mourinho might simply want to focus on a Premier League title charge and it could be a competitive race involving several teams.
Manchester City are favourites at 2/1 although Pep Guardiola will want to reshape his squad at the Etihad Stadium, while Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United all hover around the 6/1 mark.
Tottenham are a 15/2 chance with betway, with Liverpool 9/1 with bet365 and Jurgen Klopp’s side are likely to go close considering they have no European football distraction.
As for champions Leicester, they are 25/1 with bet365 to repeat their amazing achievement this season and they might not be too far away.
All odds were correct at time of posting.
