Ladbrokes pay out £72,000 to Leicester City fan after he cashes out bet

"It's a life-changing amount of money"

Ladbrokes customer cashes out £72,000 from a £50 bet despite standing to win a potential £250,000

It was all smiles for a Ladbrokes customer at the weekend, with the gentleman in question walking away with a cool £72,000 from a £50 stake.

The Leicester City supporter backed his team at 5000/1 to win the Premier League title at the start of the season, staking £50 on the Foxes achieving what seemed like the utterly unthinkable.

Wind the clock forward a few months and City are now top of the table and favourites to win the title, with the fan in question cashing out his £50 bet for the princely sum of £72,000 just before Leicester won 1-0 at Watford.

Indeed, if the fan had waited until that game had been played, then his betting slip cash out value would have risen to £91,000 although the anonymous supporter will undoubtedly be chuffed to have landed such a massive payout from a small stake.

The winner said: “It will mean so much if we win, so there’s no point in being greedy.”

He said he was “ecstatic” and looking forward to the rest of the league whatever the outcome.

“The odds are constantly changing, even Chelsea could sneak into the top four at the last minute,” he said.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “It’s a life-changing amount of money and we congratulate our customer for holding his nerve this long.”

Leicester were tipped by many for Premier League relegation at the beginning of the season, with Claudio Ranieri arriving with a mixed reputation after Nigel Pearson had previously kept the Foxes afloat the season before.

However, since beating Sunderland in their opening game, City haven’t looked back and now have the very real prospect of landing the Premier League title.

Ladbrokes now offer a best price 5/4 that they win the title, with Arsenal and Tottenham sharing the spoils on Saturday and Manchester City needing to put an almighty run together to reel in the Foxes.

All odds were correct at time of posting.
