League One betting tips – Saturday 5 September

We’re backing Gillingham and Walsall to continue their fine starts to the season

The international break has played havoc with the domestic fixtures, with no Premier League and Championship games being played this weekend.

However, there are ten League One matches taking place on Saturday and some decent bets knocking around for those who find the prospect of San Marino v England pretty unpalatable.

So here are our best League One bets for Saturday.

GILLINGHAM to beat Doncaster @ 5/4 with bet365
The Gills have flown out of the traps and it appears that the Priestfield Stadium could be a fortress this season. 4-0 and 2-0 wins against Sheffield United and Wigan Athletic have helped the Kent side to fourth place in League One.

The team are averaging two goals per game home and away which is in stark contrast to Donny’s three goals in their five matches, with Paul Dickov’s team yet to find the net on their travels.

Justin Edinburgh seems to be making a big impact with Gillingham and striker Bradley Dack looks like a lively prospect who could continue filling his boots in this match.

WALSALL to beat Bury @ 13/10 with William Hill
Dean Smith will hope to avoid the curse of August Manager of the Month, although his Saddlers team are in great nick after thirteen points from five games played.

In addition, they have eliminated Nottingham Forest and Brighton from the Capital One Cup, with their only defeat coming in the rather meaningless JP Trophy against Morecambe.

Bury are yet to win a League One game, with their only victories coming in cup games and they are conceding too many goals as could be seen when shipping four against Fleetwood and three against Crewe.

Best odds on the Gillingham x Walsall double is 4/1 with bet365.
