Arsenal will clash with Manchester United in the FA Cup quarter-finals and as such, Liverpool now find themselves bookies favourites to go all the way in the competition.
The draw for the last eight was made prior to Manchester United’s 3-1 win over Preston North End at Deepdale on Monday evening and the Red Devils will now go head-to-head with the Gunners after goals from Wayne Rooney, Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera rescued the tie following an early Preston goal.
Louis van Gaal’s side are second favourites at 5/2 to clinch the world’s oldest football trophy with Arsenal now down to 11/4 after leading the betting market before the draw was made. Wenger’s side secured their place in the quarter-finals thanks to a win against Middlesbrough at the weekend.
Liverpool now lead the betting market and a triumph in the competition would provide a fitting tribute and farewell to Anfield stalwart Steven Gerrard. The player will leave Liverpool this summer and should the Reds make the final, this would be his last match for the club and on his 35th birthday too! Just two matches separate Liverpool from a place in the final and they need to find a way past Championship side Blackburn Rovers in the first of these.
A local derby has been thrown up between West Bromwich Albion and Aston Villa in the last eight, while giant killing side Bradford City take on Reading. As if a 4-2 win over Chelsea wasn’t enough for them, the plucky Bantams swept past Premier League side Sunderland in the last round and a victory over Championship side Reading would secure their appearance at Wembley in the semi-final.
