Southampton battered at the Etihad Stadium and Hughes now staring down a barrel at St Mary’s
Mark Hughes has famously never taken a Premier League side down although that’s largely because he’s been removed from his post at QPR and Stoke City before the hammer has fallen on both clubs in the top flight.
The same might be about to happen at Southampton after they were thrashed 6-1 at Manchester City on Sunday, with the Saints quickly going 3-0 down and unable to stop the champions running rampant.
They won’t be the only team to be on the receiving end of this type of scoreline, although Hughes is now firmly under the microscope and the majority of Southampton fans appear to want a change.
William Hill make the Welshman the 2/1 favourite to win the Sack Race market, with no top flight manager yet to be sacked although the Saints board must be considering a change.
After all, the Hampshire side have amassed just seven points from their eleven matches thus far, with Southampton having not won any of their previous seven matches since triumphing 2-0 at Crystal Palace.
The Saints entertain Watford next weekend and a failure to win that match could spell the end for Hughes, with the international break coming at a good time for a change to be made.
However, Slavisa Jokanovic appears to be in a similar situation and the Fulham manager can be backed at 11/4 to win the Sack Race, with the Cottagers leaking goals ahead of Monday’s trip to Huddersfield.
Mauricio Pochettino is 4/1 largely based on the fact that he’s been strongly linked with a switch to Real Madrid, while Jose Mourinho is now out to 7/1.
