Martin O'Neill has emerged as favourite to take over the Leicester City managerial hot-seat following the sacking on Sunday of Nigel Pearson.
Leicester City’s 1-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday was the final straw for the club bosses and manager Nigel Pearson was dismissed from his position on Sunday, according to reports. Pearson steered the side to promotion from the Championship as champions last season, however they have won just four matches so far this season and sit firmly at the bottom of the Premier League table.
The big question is, who will replace him? There is no shortage of contenders, however former Foxes boss Martin O’Neill, who was in charge from 1995 to 2000 before leaving to enjoy a successful period at Celtic, has emerged as frontrunner for the vacant position.
Within minutes of the betting market being opened, the Republic of Ireland manager was backed to 4/1 from 16/1 and he would certainly be a favourite amongst the Leicester fans.
Tim Sherwood was initially the favourite for the post at 8/1, however the punters backed O’Neill to top position in the betting following little interest in Sherwood and he is now 14/1.
Neil Lennon, another Celtic favourite, is second favourite at 6/1, however he has only recently joined Bolton Wanderers and is guiding them up the Championship table following a disastrous start to the season, therefore he would perhaps be an unlikely candidate.
An interesting name which has cropped up is Kevin Keegan. The former Newcastle United manager has had his price cut from 20/1 to just 12/1 and is now third favourite.
