At Colts games, Pacers games, Hoosiers games. In May, in the grandstands at the Indianapolis 500.

Indiana bettors have numerous options of how and where they can bet with DraftKings becoming one of two mobile platforms to launch on Thursday.

Sports betting got underway in Indiana as a retail business on Sept. 1, with 13 outlets now accepting wagers. DraftKings and SugarHouse are the only mobile platforms in the state, but Sara Gonso Tait, executive director of the Indiana Gaming Commission, told the Indianapolis Star that another company has applied to launch online.

DraftKings was first to launch a mobile platform in New Jersey, on Aug. 1, 2018. Jamie Shea, DraftKings’ dead of sportsbook digital, said early introductions to Indiana bettors will be a major advantage in attempting to win their business.

“People know the DraftKings name. They know and trust us. So, I think that that's beneficial going in,” Shea told Bookies.com. “When thy first start on the app, they stay with it if they like it.”

Shea said the company is offering inducements such as an Indiana-only odds boost on the Colts for their Sunday night game against Kansas City. Customers geo-located outside the state receive the Colts at +460, while those inside will see +1000.

DraftKings Coming to Pennsylvania Soon

Indiana is the third state in which DraftKings has launched its mobile platform, joining West Virginia, which went live in late August, and New Jersey. Shea said she expects permitting should be completed to allow for a Pennsylvania debut in around a month.

DraftKings is a well-positioned entity in a state seemingly primed to absorb customers from populous neighboring states. Indiana borders states with three of the top 10 populations in the nation (Illinois: 12.7 million; Ohio: 11.7 million; Michigan: 10 million). Kentucky has a comparatively small 4.5 million residents. Sports betting was legalized in Illinois in June but regulations to allow its launch are incomplete.

“It is a great location. My hope, though, is that Ohio and Kentucky will embrace sports betting as well,” Shea said. “With the repeal of PASPA, I think people are looking at sports betting a little differently and going, ‘You know, this is a great revenue-maker for our state’ at a time where a lot of states need that money. It's something that their constituents want, they want. They want to have sports betting.

“It's interesting, my parents live in Kentucky. And I know that some of their friends will definitely be going and downloading the app and betting, going across into Indiana and making some wagers and hoping that it becomes legal in Kentucky.”

That first Indiana mobile bet at DraftKings? Around 12:22 p.m., Shea said. Colts? Hoosiers? Strangely, a $25 wager on the Cardinals to defeat Atlanta in the National League Division Series.
