Newcastle United all the rage to win Sky Bet Championship 16/17

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez during a press conference at St James' Park, Newcastle.

Bet365 report more than 1,000 bets on Newcastle to win Championship with Rafael Benitez

Newcastle had a horrendous season to drop out of the Premier League although thousands of bet365 customers don’t expect the Magpies to remain in the Championship for more than a season.

Rafael Benitez has decided to stay on Tyneside, with bet365 reporting a fair amount of money being slapped down on Newcastle winning the division next season, especially after landing the signature of Dwight Gayle.

It appears that Matt Ritchie could also be heading to the north-east, with bet365 now offering 15/8 that Newcastle land the title and celebrate an immediate promotion to the top flight.

They were previously 9/4 and bet365 could be forced to cut them even shorter, with Benitez sure to be given more cash to spend on a squad that won’t just challenge for promotion but also compete back at the top level.

bet365’s Steve Freeth told “We may be in the middle of Euro 2016 and the papers full of stories about who will replace Roy Hodgson, but the reports on Newcastle’s transfer business hasn’t passed punters by either.

“We’ve seen over a 1000 bets on a title success in just the last 36 hours and Newcastle will head into pre-season as the best backed side of all four divisions, by some considerable way.”

Aston Villa and Norwich City are trading at 8/1 and 9/1 respectively for the Championship, while Derby County are 12/1 and Nigel Pearson could get a tune out of a Rams side who have underachieved to date.
