Jurgen Klopp 2/5 to become the next Liverpool FC manager after Brendan Rodgers is sacked by FSG
It appears that the next Liverpool FC manager betting market could be over before it has started.
Brendan Rodgers was on Sunday informed by telephone that he was being relieved of duties at Anfield, with the Fenway Sports Group now searching for a replacement in a bid to resurrect the Reds’ fortunes.
Jurgen Klopp has been widely linked to the Liverpool manager’s job for some time and the former Borussia Dortmund coach is no bigger than 2/5 (BetVictor) to come out of his one-year sabbatical and take the reins at Anfield.
Klopp did particularly well with Dortmund on a modest budget, regularly going toe-to-toe with giants Bayern Munich and often getting the better of them.
The eccentric manager could already have agreed to replace Rodgers before the latter was told that he was no longer going to be in charge, with the other names in the frame being Carlo Ancelotti and Frank de Boer.
A joint statement issued by the principal owner John W Henry, the chairman Tom Werner and Gordon read: “We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Brendan Rodgers for the significant contribution he has made to the club and express our gratitude for his hard work and commitment. All of us have experienced some wonderful moments with Brendan as manager and we are confident he will enjoy a long career in the game.
“Although this has been a difficult decision, we believe it provides us with the best opportunity for success on the pitch. Ambition and winning are at the heart of what we want to bring to Liverpool and we believe this change gives us the best opportunity to deliver it. The search for a new manager is under way and we hope to make an appointment in a decisive and timely manner.”
Rodgers believed that he would continue as manager after a 1-1 draw in the Merseyside derby on Sunday, although he was also aware of pressure on his position at Anfield.
