Eddie Howe and Frank de Boer favourites to become next Southampton manager after Ronald Koeman leaves for Everton
Poor old Southampton have lost another top-class manager to a Premier League rival, with Ronald Koeman following Mauricio Pochettino out of the exit door.
The Saints have managed to unearth two outstanding managers and now look to recruit someone who can continue their predecessors’ good work, with Eddie Howe unsurprisingly near the top of the betting.
The Bournemouth man is a 3/1 chance with BetVictor to replace Koeman, although it’s possible that Howe will want to remain with a club where he is effectively part of the furtniture.
Howe has guided the Cherries into the Premier League and managed to keep them there, so it’s hard to see him heading to Southampton and they might consider an alternative themselves.
Frank de Boer is possibly a more likely appointment considering that the Dutchman was relatively impressive during his time in charge at Ajax and might have a similar style to Ronald Koeman.
De Boer is a 3/1 shot and his departure from Ajax at the end of last season means that he’s a free agent and certainly interested in managing in the Premier League.
Andre Villas-Boas is a 6/1 chance with Paddy Power although the former Chelsea and Tottenham man wasn’t exactly a huge success with either London club, while Manuel Pellegrini perhaps doesn’t represent a progressive step either.
Unai Emery is a 10/1 chance and would certainly tick several boxes after his success with Sevilla, while David Moyes is a 14/1 chance and the former Everton boss has huge experience of managing in the Premier League.
